The Roanoke Bar Association is partnering with the Salem-Roanoke County Bar Association to plan and implement the second semester of the Rule of Law Project for middle school classes in Roanoke County.  The County has split schedules for the 2015-2016 school year and these winter classes were not in session during our October Rule of Law session.

The Rule of Law Project was initiated by the Virginia Bar Association to better educate middle school students in Virginia about the rule of law in America, and the need to protect it in order to preserve the rights and freedoms we enjoy as American citizens.  The program is consistent with the Virginia Standards of Learning.  In 2012, the Center for Teaching the Rule of Law was established at Roanoke College to change fundamentally the way the rule of law is taught and understood on a global scale.

The Rule of Law Project is simple.  Volunteer lawyers and judges will be matched with teachers to lead a discussion about the rule of law in the classroom on March 23.  Each class is 45 to 50 minutes long, and there are 23 classes in 5 schools that need to be filled.  You may volunteer to participate in one class, multiple classes, or all the classes taught by one teacher.

To register to participate at the schools, please go to  our online registration system to choose your class(es).   Sign-on using your Facebook® account or email address.  If this is your first time using the new registration system, you will also be asked for your name and phone number.  As always, we will keep your information confidential. Select the teacher you wish to work with and then sign-up for one or more classes.  Be sure to save your registration before you exit!
