On May 1, 2019, the Renaming Ceremony for the Roanoke City Courthouse took place on the steps of the courthouse.  This special ceremony was in honor of Roanoke native and civil rights attorney Oliver W. Hill.  Speakers included Mayor Sherman P. Lea, and representatives from the Oliver White Hill Foundation, Judge William Broadhurst and RBA president, Lee Osborne. Last year the city dedicated a marker in honor of Mr. Hill in front of his childhood home. This event is another step in honoring his contributions.
