Samuel G. Wilson. The 2026 Young Lawyer of the Year will be presented to Jamie H. Wood\, Esq. by Justin E. Simmons\, Esq.  The Volunteer Service Awards recipients will be recognized. The Jane Glenn Scholarship and the James N. Kincanon Scholarship Awards will be announced along with awarded Grants.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeeting Reservations: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Cost:\n\n\n$25.00\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Payment:\n\n\nPayment is expected at the door.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Parking:\n\n\nParking in the Shenandoah Club lot is for club members only. J. Michael Gamble (Ret.)\, John T. Jessee\, Esq.\, and James F. Neale\, Esq. from The McCammon Group discuss the ethical Rules\, principles\, and practices involved as lawyers negotiate in mediation as well as in the other areas of their practices. Drawing from the Virginia Rules of Professional Conduct and the ABA Model Rules\, the topics addressed will include: competence\, honesty\, the role of the client in making decisions\, communicating with the client\, communicating with those affiliated with opposing parties\, and threats of criminal sanctions to gain leverage.  Hypotheticals will be used to illustrate. This program will be presented virtually.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Cost:\n\n\nNo Charge for RBA members. Registration is required. Lawyers routinely operate in high‑stakes\, adversarial environments that elicit strong emotional responses which directly affect judgment\, communication\, and professional conduct. Yet most attorneys receive little formal training on how emotions shape decision‑making and ethical behavior.This program introduces emotional intelligence (EI) as a core professional and ethical competency for lawyers. Participants will learn how emotional awareness and regulation support sound judgment\, effective communication\, professionalism\, and ethical compliance. The program integrates practical strategies lawyers can implement immediately to reduce reactive behavior\, improve client interactions\, and lower ethical risk under the Virginia Rules of Professional Conduct.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMaterials will be distributed at the seminar.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Cost:\n\n\nThere is no charge for RBA members.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n CLE Credit:\n\n\nApproval pending for 1.0 hours of CLE credit.
