SUMMARY:Judicial Endorsment Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Pursuant to Article XXVII of the Bylaws of the Roanoke Bar Association\, on Tuesday\, January 13\, 2015\, at 5:00 p.m. at the Shenandoah Club\, a special meeting of the active membership of the Association will be held for the purpose of endorsing a candidate for the vacancy in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court of the Twenty-Third Judicial Circuit created by the retirement of The Honorable Philip Trompeter. \nOnly active members of the Association in good standing as of Monday\, January 12\, shall be permitted to participate in the balloting\, and any member of the Association who has participated or intends to participate in a meeting of another bar association within the judicial circuit for endorsement for the same vacancy shall not be permitted to participate in the balloting. \nPlease note that seventy-five (75) active members of the Association shall constitute a quorum\, which is required by the bylaws before the meeting can proceed. \nAny parties submitting themselves as candidates for this vacancy should refer to Article XXVII\, Section 2\, of the Roanoke Bar Association Bylaws for submission requirements.  The Judicial Endorsement Certification Form is available at http://www.roanokebar.com/Forms/Judicial%20Endorsement%20Certification%20Form.pdf. \nAny candidate desiring to utilize the RBA membership database for mailing labels or endorsement letter merges should complete the request form and send it to the Executive Director at roanokebar@earthlink.net no later than 12:00 noon on Monday\, January 5\, in order to processed.  The fee for this service is detailed in the request form. \n

SUMMARY:Santa at the Station 2014
DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by the Roanoke Law Foundation\nOn Monday evening\, December 15\, 2014\, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm\, the Roanoke Law Foundation sponsored the ninth annual Santa at the Station\, a holiday party for children and their parents who are living in shelters in our area during the holiday season.  For this special event\, the children and their parents were picked up and transported to the Virginia Museum of Transportation where they  experienced an amazing holiday party.  The kids  enjoyed unlimited use of the museum as well as entertainment by face painters.  They were treated to their favorite party foods\, including pizza\, chicken nuggets\, and cupcakes\, and had their photos taken with Santa Claus. They visited Santa’s Workshop where they created holiday arts and crafts\, and Santa’s Sack where they selected a small\, special gift to wrap and give to their parents this holiday season. Zaritsky is an attorney who consults exclusively with other attorneys and estate planning professionals and serves as an expert witness on estate planning and administration and related tax issues.  He was for 20 years a partner in the Fairfax\, Virginia\, law firm of Zaritsky & Zaritsky\, where his practice was limited to estate planning and administration and related tax matters.  Before that\, he was for eight years a legislation attorney for the Congressional Research Service\, where his responsibilities included advising members of congress and committee staff on tax matters.  He has been a lecturer at most major tax and estate planning institutes\, including the University of Miami (Heckerling) Estate Planning Institute\, where he is a member of the advisory committee.  He is the author or co-author of over 200 articles\, three Tax Management Portfolios\, and a dozen treatises\, including: Tax Planning for Family Wealth Transfers at Death\, Tax Planning for Family Wealth Transfers During Life\, and Tax Planning With Life Insurance (with Stephan Leimberg) (all published by Thomson-Reuters/WG&L).  He is tax editor of Probate Practice Reporter\, a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and the American College of Tax Counsel and a former Chair of the Virginia Bar Association Section on Wills\, Trusts & Estates.  He lives on a farm with his wife and several groundhogs\, near the thriving metropolis of Rapidan\, Virginia.  See www.howardzaritsky.com.
