DESCRIPTION:Barrister Book Buddies Returns for 2023-2024!!\nIn 2019-2020 the RBA celebrated the 20th year of Barrister Book Buddies. Due to COVID the program was put on hold until it was safe to resume in-person events. The Roanoke City Schools has asked us to return for 2023-2024. We currently have more than 40 teachers who are looking for a Buddy this fall. The elementary schools are: Hurt Park\,  Preston Park\, Morningside\, Fallon Park\, Lincoln Terrace and Virginia Heights. We are asking for volunteers to register now to ensure we have enough volunteers when school begins in August. \nEach Book Buddy is asked to read for an hour\, at least once a month.  You may read more often if you wish.  Once the assignments are made\, it is the responsibility of the Book Buddy and the teacher to contact each other and determine the schedule. \nIf you have a preference for school and/or grade\, please note that on your registration.   \nEvery attempt will be made to honor your request\, but that will depend upon the needs of the schools.  We appreciate your willingness to help wherever you are needed. We encourage you to sign up for this award-winning community service program and make a difference in a child’s life. \nWe appreciate your participation and look forward to re-starting the Barrister Book Buddies. \nRegistration for 2023-2024 is closed.

Mr. James is a 1997 graduate of Texas A&M University and a 2001 graduate of the George Mason University School of Law.  Before joining Blankingship & Keith in 2003\, Mr. James served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the judges of the Arlington County Circuit Court and completed the Judge Advocate General School Course at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery\, Alabama. He has served for over 25 years as a military reservist and is currently assigned to the National Guard Bureau’s Legal Service Office in Arlington\, Virginia. He joined the Roanoke Police Department in October of 2023. Chief Booth started his law enforcement career with the Richmond\, Virginia\, Police Department in 1996\, where he served for nearly 20 years. DESCRIPTION:The RBA will celebrate 100 years in 2025. \nA year long celebration is being planned with a variety of activities through out the year. As part of the celebration\, a new composite is being done. The last one was done in 2014. \nThe Roanoke Bar Association has engaged the firm of JRussell Photography\, who specializes in “Executive Portraits” to photograph all the members for our association beginning April 9\, 2024. Photo sessions will be April 9 – 12\, April 16-19\, April 30 – May 3. Gentry Locke attorneys have the option of April 15 in-house at Gentry Locke. \nJRussell has over 90 years of combined professional portrait photography experience and is the nation’s leading executive portrait studio. DESCRIPTION:The Senior Shine and Dine Dinner Returns for the Third Year!       \nImagine graduating from high school and your family not having the financial means to celebrate this milestone.  Imagine further that you are homeless\, and you may not even have a family.  Many students graduating from Patrick Henry and William Fleming High Schools are in this situation. these students have accomplished so much yet often have no one able to celebrate their graduation. \nThe RBA will provided the decorations\, the catering and assist as the wait staff to provide a special day for these seniors and their guests.  On April 24\, 2024\, a room at Greene Memorial Church will be transformed into a happy and special place to celebrate and on April 25\, 2024\, members of the RBA will serve a catered meal and provide cleanup. DESCRIPTION:RBA Centennial Event\nSalem Red Sox Game and Picnic\nThe RBA will kick off our centennial year with a Salem Red Sox baseball game and picnic. The Salem Red Sox will play the Delmarva Shorebirds. The game will be on Saturday\, August 10\, 2024\, at Salem Memorial Stadium.  Gates open at  5:05 pm.  First pitch is at 6:05 pm. The RBA will picnic in the Left Field Pavilion. The Pavilion is a completely covered area with over 20 picnic tables. It is located down the left field foul line next to the Red Sox bullpen. The picnic will include hamburgers and hot dogs with all the fixing’s\, vegetarian baked beans\, Lay’s potato chips\, assorted cookies\, and canned Pepsi products and bottled Aquafina water. Tickets will be Field Level Admissions. Our own Nick Leitch from Gentry Locke will sing the National Anthem! \nThe RBA has purchased a block of tickets which will be issued first come-first serve. RBA members and one guest attend at no charge. Additional tickets may be purchased.  Registration deadline is August 5th at noon. Registration has closed. Mr. Hull has spent more than 17 years serving the Roanoke Region in various economic development roles. DESCRIPTION:RBA Centennial Event\nPicnic & Pickleball Tournament Finals\nThe RBA will host the finals of the 1st RBA Pickleball Tournament followed by a Picnic catered by Mission Barbecue on Saturday\, October 5\, 2024.   \nThe Tournament Finals will begin at 11:00 am followed by the Picnic at noon. The event will be held at Chip Casola’s cabin – 8714 Willett Lane\, Bent Mountain\, VA 24059.  All RBA members are welcome even if you have not participated in the pickleball tournament.  \n The picnic will include sliced brisket\, pulled pork\, pulled chicken\, mac-n-cheese\, cold slaw\, green beans\, buns and cornbread along with tea and lemonade. Please bring your own chair. Pictures of this beautiful venue are below. \nRBA members and their guest attend at no charge. You do need to register. The ReStore is a non-profit store and donation center selling used and some new items to fix\, repair\, maintain or decorate your home. ReStores accept donations and sells a constantly changing inventory of diverse\, high-quality merchandise to the public at a fraction of the retail price\, while diverting reusable household items and building materials from area landfills.
