DESCRIPTION:Barrister Book Buddies Returns for 2023-2024!!\nIn 2019-2020 the RBA celebrated the 20th year of Barrister Book Buddies. Due to COVID the program was put on hold until it was safe to resume in-person events. The Roanoke City Schools has asked us to return for 2023-2024. We currently have more than 40 teachers who are looking for a Buddy this fall. The elementary schools are: Hurt Park\,  Preston Park\, Morningside\, Fallon Park\, Lincoln Terrace and Virginia Heights. We are asking for volunteers to register now to ensure we have enough volunteers when school begins in August. \nEach Book Buddy is asked to read for an hour\, at least once a month.  You may read more often if you wish.  Once the assignments are made\, it is the responsibility of the Book Buddy and the teacher to contact each other and determine the schedule. \nIf you have a preference for school and/or grade\, please note that on your registration.   \nEvery attempt will be made to honor your request\, but that will depend upon the needs of the schools.  We appreciate your willingness to help wherever you are needed. We encourage you to sign up for this award-winning community service program and make a difference in a child’s life. \nWe appreciate your participation and look forward to re-starting the Barrister Book Buddies. \nRegistration for 2023-2024 is closed.

DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by the Roanoke Law Foundation\nOn Monday evening\, December 11\, 2023\, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm\, the Roanoke Law Foundation will sponsor the annual Santa at the Station\, a holiday party for children and their parents who are living in shelters in our area during the holiday season.  For this special event\, the children and their parents will be picked up and transported to the Virginia Museum of Transportation where they will experience an amazing holiday party.  The kids will enjoyed use of the museum as well as entertainment. They will be treated to their favorite party foods and have their photos taken with Santa Claus. They will visit Santa’s Workshop where they will create holiday arts and crafts\, and Santa’s Sack where they can select a small\, special gift to wrap and give to their parents this holiday season. Mr. Leigh is a principal with Troxell Leigh\, P.C.\, in Leesburg. His practice focuses on real estate\, assisting owners\, developers and institutions with varied issues and litigation. He joined the VBA in 1997 and has been active in the Real Estate Section since 2011\, serving as section Chair from 2015 to 2017. In 2018\, he was appointed to the VBA Public Service Committee and in 2019 joined the Board of Governors. Ben earned undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Richmond and served as law clerk to then-Chief Justice Harry L.
