| “More Than Just IQ: The Role of Emotional Intelligence in Ethical and Competent Legal Practice”. Presenting the CLE will be Oneida Huntington, Southwest Virginia Region Manager, of the Virginia Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program. Course Description: The practice of law is intellectually rigorous and emotionally demanding. Lawyers routinely operate in high‑stakes, adversarial environments that elicit strong emotional responses which directly affect judgment, communication, and professional conduct. Yet most attorneys receive little formal training on how emotions shape decision‑making and ethical behavior.This program introduces emotional intelligence (EI) as a core professional and ethical competency for lawyers. Participants will learn how emotional awareness and regulation support sound judgment, effective communication, professionalism, and ethical compliance. The program integrates practical strategies lawyers can implement immediately to reduce reactive behavior, improve client interactions, and lower ethical risk under the Virginia Rules of Professional Conduct. |
